In Symbols + Marks, we were challenged to establish new symbols and signage for the Audubon Zoo. The current iconography for the zoo uses statues for wayfinding and lacks a variety of animal icons. The zoo dates back to the early 1900’s, and some of the visual concepts in use have not changed. Our goal was to create modern symbols that are timeless.
Our plan consisted of creating a set of ten distinct symbols that are easily legible in order to help visitors effortlessly navigate through the zoo. Our solution to these symbols was to incorporate both black and white as well as color, and are presented in both a distinguishable and representable way that allows them to converge together as a complete symbol set.
